Abu Obeid Horse Auction is one of the most important pioneering projects in the equestrian sports field in Saudi Arabia, since it started with a small idea and became an important part in facilitating the task of buying and selling in the sales movement of horses of all kinds, in addition to its role in enhancing the renewal and activation steps adopted by the stables at the beginning and end of each racing season, which contributed to its survival and development, and this is what can be said here about the most famous private auctions among the equestrian circles.
Abu Obeid Horse Auction
Establishment:
In early 1996, the horse breeding stables area in Janadriyah witnessed the launch of the Abu Obeid Auction for Throughbred horses with special support from the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Equestrian Club at the time, Prince Badr bin Abdulaziz – may God have mercy on him – who presented a large group of his horses to the owner of the idea and founder of the auction, the owner and producer Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Jalal – may God have mercy on him.
To continue the journey of this auction, which has been an important channel for all large and small stables to display all types of horses, mares, foals and racing horses, in addition to being and still being the sole financier of horse races in various fields in Saudi regions, and is considered one of the most important auctions that owners are keen to attend; because it is held every two weeks at the end of the week throughout the racing seasons.
Development:
After the death of the founder of the auction in 2005 AD, nicknamed in the equestrian community as “Abu Obeid”, his sons took it upon themselves to complete the auction process and develop it gradually to suit the size and quality of the exhibits through it, until it became held during the racing seasons of the fields, which are usually from September to April, in addition to allocating two important auctions in the schedule of the auction management work, the first is the “Auction of Colts Under Training” called the “Asayef Auction” and the other is the “Annual Ramadan Auction for Early Foals” in addition to the auction allocated in most of its exhibits to fertilized mares, whether foreign or local.
Demand:
In addition to the three main auctions, the demand of those interested in the auction increases mostly when the exhibits are horses from large and well-known stables or those auctions that are held before the start of the racing season and continue during it until the end of the season, due to their popularity among horse owners in the rest of the regions of Saudi Arabia, to be an opportunity for the horses on display in a large way to succeed and rediscover, to the point that they have returned stronger to King Abdulaziz Racecourse in Janadriyah with their new owners and trainers.
In addition to the fact that the auction has become a link between horse owners in different regions, and an important gathering point through which many private deals are also concluded, it has created rapid investment opportunities by purchasing the horses of this auction and then displaying them again at other times that match the need for supply and demand governed by the variables and developments witnessed by Saudi equestrianism from time to time.
